Therapies

Investing in yourself and therapy can feel like a commitment. I offer select sliding fee spots based on income, affordable packages, and lower fee sessions from interns I supervise. If you feel hesitant about treatment, call for a consult and see if together we can find a fit for you.

Individual therapy

Individual therapy, also known as psychotherapy or talk therapy, is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client which aims to facilitate change and improve the quality of life for the individual. My approach is eclectic in nature and I use a variety of resources, pulling from attachment theory and family systems to cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, with the intent to best serve my client’s individual needs. Individual therapy sessions usually occur as a 45 minute weekly commitment. Similarly to efforts to improve our physical health, noteworthy impact of sessions is directly related to frequency.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a powerful tool in situations of recurring marital conflicts, or ongoing situations affecting individuals and family members in the home.

Emotional-focused therapy for couples focuses on addressing on negative communication patterns and exploring the attachment dynamics within the couple. I have worked extensively with couples experiencing medical trauma related to loss, illness, or infertility, as well as on-going communication difficulties and infidelity. I often pull from research addressing shame in couples, as well as exploring ways to rebuild connection and attachment with each other.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy is the most successful approach in the treatment of family conflicts–the therapy process may involve all family members or those essential to addressing the problem. Naturally, the family system influences a child’s behavior and addressing issues as a unit is essential to benefitting children. Family Therapy is also helpful for adult children and their parents and family members to work through life transition, changing family needs and roles.

Children & Adolescents Counseling

Children and Adolescent therapy addresses issues that a child or adolescent is having in the home, with the family or at school. I treat children starting at age seven and up using a variety of interventions from play therapy to family therapy in order to increase the connection in the home. I am a Registered Play Therapist and have completed a certification program in play therapy from MidAmerica Nazarene University. For further information regarding the use of play in therapy see the Association for Play Therapy.

Depression & Anxiety Counseling

“Depression and anxiety are two of the body’s first reactions to stockpiles of hurt.  Of course, there are organic and biochemical reasons we experience depression and debilitating anxiety--causes over which we have no control--but unrecognized pain and unprocessed hurt can also lead there.” -- Brené Brown
